Tips for Hosting an Event at Home

If you are hosting the event at your home, let the Alumni Relations office know! We can send purple swag your way!

If you would like to open up the invitation to others in the local area, feel free to post your event details on your city’s Facebook group page.

Be sure you have a strong internet connection! Then watch the game one of two ways:
  1. Hook up your computer to a TV using an HDMI cable.
    • Shut down your computer and turn off the TV.
    • Connect the HDMI cable to your TV; the ports may be on the side or back of the TV, and are generally labeled HDMI1, HDMI2, etc. (depending on how many ports you have)
    • Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to your computer.
    • Turn on the TV. Using the "input" button on the remote, select the same HDMI port number as the one you plugged the cord into on your TV.
    • Turn the computer on and the computer should automatically detect the TV and output the screen image to the TV.
    • If you do not see the computer mirrored on the TV, try going to the computer display setting (sometimes called Screen Resolution) and press the "Detect Button."
    • Two monitor options should appear and now you can choose how you want to view the screen under the Display dropdown menu on the computer. (Wide, Duplicate, Extend, etc.)
  2. Enter the link for the game into a Smart TV.
Post photos of your fun event on either your city's Facebook group page or the St. Thomas Alumni Facebook page. The goal is to show Tommies cheering on Tommies around the world!

Tips for Hosting an Off-site Event (bar, restaurant, or club)

Let the Alumni Relations office know! We can send purple swag your way!

Reach out to the off-site location where you are looking to host the event to ensure you are able to use one of their TVs and/or that they have a TV with an HDMI port. Some off-site locations may supply the TV but require you bring your own HDMI cord and laptop. See above for more details on connecting a computer to the TV.
  • NOTE: If you do have to bring your own laptop, we have found it is best to stop in prior to the event and do a little test run to be sure everything runs smoothly.
Invite your St. Thomas friends! If you would like to invite others in the area feel free to post your event details on your city's Facebook group page.

Be sure to post any photos of your fun event on either your city's Facebook group page or the St. Thomas Alumni Facebook page. The goal is to show Tommies cheering on Tommie around the world!
